Beating Minecraft isn’t easy. After mining to the bottom of the world for diamonds to mine obsidian to make a nether portal to fight a lot of blazes to get blaze powder to combine with ender pearls to make eyes of ender to activate an End portal to visit the End dimension to slay the Ender Dragon, you probably feel like you deserve a bit of a reward for all of that hard work. Boy that was a long sentence!
通关《我的世界》绝非易事。想象一下，你挖着挖着，来到世界的底端，想要挖些钻石，合成钻石镐；然后，你又挖了点黑曜石，搭建下届传送门，前往了下一个维度；下届中，你与无数烈焰人鏖战，得到烈焰粉，结合末影珍珠，合成末影之眼；然后，你激活了传送门，进入末地，最后手刃末影龙；回望这一路，你深感来路之艰难，认为自己应当得到一些奖励。瞧瞧，这句话如此繁复！
Today’s block of the month is that reward. It’s an inert ovoid extravagance called the Dragon Egg, and was added in the last part of the Adventure Update in November 2011, alongside cauldrons, glistering melons, and baby animals.
而我们的本月方块，正是你应得的那份奖品 —— 一颗不动分毫、外观呈卵型的奢侈品“龙蛋”。2011年11月，《我的世界》冒险更新第二部分发布，龙蛋被加入其中，与之同时，炼药锅、闪烁的西瓜和幼年动物加入游戏。
Getting a dragon egg just means doing all the stuff listed above, up to and including killing the Ender Dragon. Once you do, you’ll see it sitting on top of the exit portal that allows you to get back to the Overworld. But don’t just mosey on over there and whack it with a pickaxe, because it’ll just teleport away. Instead, you need to mine out the block it’s sitting on and cause it to fall onto a block where it can’t fit – like a torch or a slab. You can also give it a shove with a piston. Either way, it’ll then drop as an item, allowing it to be collected.

What does it do? Well... nothing. OK, ok, not nothing. It emits a very faint light level. It teleports, as noted above. But that’s more or less it. Its value is simply that it’s arguably the rarest item in the game – in Java edition you can only ever get one, and in Bedrock edition you can get two (by defeating the Ender Dragon twice). So maybe don’t go throwing it into a pool of lava. Or do! It’s up to you really.

You might be thinking: “If the Ender Dragon lays eggs, then is it a bird?” The answer is no – loads of different types of animals lay eggs, including birds, mollusks, insects, spiders, fish and even some mammals. “So is the Ender Dragon a fish?” Also no. While none of the biologists we’ve sent to study the Ender Dragon have returned alive, our best guess is that it’s most likely a reptile.
你可能会觉得：“末影龙能生蛋，所以它其实是只鸟？” 当然不对，因为很多种动物都能下单，鸟能下蛋，软体动物能下蛋，昆虫能下蛋，蜘蛛能下蛋，鱼也能下蛋（即鱼），甚至一些哺乳动物也可以。“那末影龙是鱼么？” 当然也不是。虽然前往研究末影龙的生物学家至今仍未安全归来，但我们的最佳猜测是：末影龙最有可能是一种爬行动物。
Why? Well, in the real-world there are several reptiles called “dragons” – including the bearded dragon and the komodo dragon . In fact there’s a whole family of lizards, consisting of 582 species, that are often called dragons but which scientists refer to as Agamidae. Sure there are dragonfish too – but we’ve never seen the Ender Dragon swimming, so we ruled that one out.
原因为何？因为现实中，有几种爬行动物也和“龙”的英文单词“dragon”一词有关，如“鬃狮蜥”（beard dragon）和科莫多巨蜥（komodo dragon）。事实上，蜥蜴有整整一科高达582种，通常也用“dragons”代称，而科学家常称作鬣蜥科。当然，深海龙鱼的英文也包含“dragon” —— 但至今，我们还未见过末影龙游泳呢，所以我们排除了这一选项。
So, over to you. How do you celebrate your victory over the Ender Dragon? Do you build a trophy room and install the egg as the centerpiece? Or do you hurl it into the void so that no Ender dragons can ever plague this world again? It’s not an easy choice, but the only person who can make it is you.
